“…democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention;  have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property;  and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths…”  James Madison, Federalist #10, 1787-1788

The federal government was purposely designed in a way to prevent becoming a democracy in the future.  America was designed as a Republic, not a democracy.  What is the difference?  What is the weakness of a democracy when compared to a Republic?  Democracy has no restraint on government power and allows government and its minions to create and use unlimited power and force against the individual.
